Banners for linking

If you’d like to link to retrofinder.de — on your own event page, in a forum, in a signature — you’ll find ready-made banners here. They may be used freely as long as they link to retrofinder.de and aren’t altered.

Please download the file and host it yourself — don’t hotlink it directly from retrofinder.de.

That’s not stinginess with bandwidth, it’s privacy: with a direct embed, every visitor to your page fetches a file from our server. We’d then see their IP address, and you’d have to mention that in your own privacy policy. If the file lives on your server, none of that happens.

The formats

The classic button. 88 × 31 is the format of the nineties-style linking buttons — fits a retro site and gets in nobody’s way.

Narrow banner for sidebars and forum signatures. Most forums allow up to 500 pixels wide, this one fits everywhere.

The wide banner with the tagline next to the wordmark, for headers and footers. 480 × 64 instead of the usual 468 × 60 — see the note below.

The file names deliberately carry no size in their name.

Ad blockers hide images whose file name contains a size such as 468x60 — and, on top of that, any image that has exactly the dimensions of an ad format, regardless of its file name. The large filter lists carry rules such as img[width="468"][height="60"] with no restriction to particular sites.

That’s why our dimensions are deliberately not ad formats: 88 × 31 is the classic linking button, 234 × 60 and 480 × 64 appear on no list. If you rename the files or change the dimensions in the <img> tag, keep that in mind — otherwise part of your audience will see nothing.

Which format for what

Take PNG when in doubt — forums and website builders almost never allow SVG in signatures. The version with the @2x suffix is twice the size and stays sharp on fine displays; it’s embedded at half its size.

SVG is worth it on your own website: the file is small, scales to any size and stays sharp throughout. The lettering is stored as an outline, so the banner looks the same everywhere — even without the font installed.
