2. Principle

retrofinder.de works without tracking: no analytics tools, no advertising networks, no Google services, no social-media plugins. Fonts, scripts and images are served from our own servers.

3. Server logs

When you open the site, our server processes technically necessary data (IP address, time, requested URL, user agent) in log files. The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO (legitimate interest / berechtigtes Interesse, in secure and stable operation). The logs are deleted or anonymised after 7 days.

4. Cookies

We use only technically necessary session cookies, and only after an active sign-in (organiser account area or editorial team). No cookies are set for ordinary visitors. There are no tracking or marketing cookies. The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO (performance of a contract); a cookie banner is therefore not required.

5. Map display

For the event map we use the self-hosted library MapLibre. The map data sits as a single file on our own server and is delivered from there; your browser only ever contacts our server. There is no connection to map providers such as OpenStreetMap or a tile service, not even an indirect one. Your IP address is not passed on to any third party.

The map data is based on data from OpenStreetMap (ODbL licence), which we processed once and store ourselves. Viewing the map therefore creates no contact with OpenStreetMap.

The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO (legitimate interest / berechtigtes Interesse, in a user-friendly map display). No map data is loaded until you open the map view.

6. Analytics (Reichweitenmessung)

To understand which pages are used, we measure visits with the software Umami. It runs on our own server; the measurement data never leaves it and is not passed on to anyone. No data processor (Auftragsverarbeiter) is involved.

We record the page visited, the referring page, browser and operating system, time on page, and country. From your IP address and browser fingerprint, together with a random value that changes daily, we compute a checksum that groups repeat visits within a single day. The IP address itself is not stored, and no recognition is possible beyond that one day.

No cookies are set in the process, and no data is stored on or read from your device. Consent under § 25 TDDDG is therefore not required, and neither is a cookie banner.

The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO; our legitimate interest (berechtigtes Interesse) lies in improving the site based on how it is actually used. You can object to this processing at any time under Art. 21 DSGVO (right to object / Widerspruchsrecht) — no particular form required, just write to the address given in section 1.

The measurement data is deleted automatically after 14 months. This span lets us compare with the same period a year earlier, which is meaningful for seasonal events.

7. Organiser sign-in (magic link)

Organisers can have a one-time sign-in link sent to their email address. To do this we process the email address and the time of the request; the email is sent via the mail server of WOLFSOFT GmbH. The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO (performance of a contract, providing the organiser account area).

8. Organiser and event data

retrofinder is an editorially maintained directory. A listing here is not a review and not an advertising agreement — we gather what is publicly available about events, organisers, venues, shops, forums and magazines of the retro scene.

We publish editorially maintained details about events, organisers and venues (e.g. name, address, website, publicly stated contact details). The source is the organisers’ own public information. The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO. Organisers can object to the publication of individual details at any time — a brief, informal email is enough.

9. Tip-off form (Hinweis melden)

Information submitted via “Report a tip” (e.g. links, corrections, optional contact details) is stored by us for editorial review. The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO.

10. Correspondence with us

If you write to us as an organiser, venue operator or editorial contact, we store that email verbatim — including sender, recipients, subject, date and attachments. The same applies to our replies. This is so that, later on, it stays traceable what was agreed for a listing: which dates we were told, which logo we are allowed to use, and who agreed to that. The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO, and for an ongoing working relationship also lit. b.

The messages are only visible internally to the editorial team, never published. We automatically delete a message three years after its date, together with any stored attachments. Anything we took from an email — an approved logo, a date listed in the directory — is unaffected by this. You can also ask for a specific message to be deleted earlier, informally, at the address given in section 1.

11. Your rights

Under Art. 15–21 DSGVO you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Auskunft, Berichtigung, Löschung, Einschränkung der Verarbeitung, Datenübertragbarkeit und Widerspruch). To exercise these, contact retrofinder@wolfsoft.de. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority (Beschwerderecht, Art. 77 DSGVO); for Rhineland-Palatinate this is the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Rheinland-Pfalz (the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information).
